How I’d Hack Your Weak Passwords

John Pozadzides wrote a great article at Lifehacker.com about how he would hack a weak password.  He also includes some great information about  how long it would take to crack certain password lengths.

There are some other great password security tips and is definitely worth the time to read.

Rearm Windows Vista

If you reach the end of your 30 day trial of Vista you can rearm Vista up to 3 times to give you an extra 90 days without needing to enter a product key.  To rearm Vista open a command prompt with admin rights and enter sysprep /generalize, or slmgr.vbs –rearm.

Zune pass C00D12D7 error fix

So I just got a new Zune 120 and wow is it awesome.  I signed up for the 14-day Zune pass trial and started downloading all kinds of music.  I liked it so much I purchased a 1 month Zune pass once my trial expired.  After a few days my PC started giving me a C00D12D7 error.  Something about my Zune pass being on too many computers (you’re allowed to use it on 3 computers and 3 Zune’s).  I was only using my Zune pass on 2 computers and 1 Zune.

I found this forum post with a possible solution.  You have to read through most of the post to find the fix that worked for me but here it is:

re: Can’t play or download music with my pass because it’s already on 3 computers?

i did some digging on these and i don’t see any account that has more than the 3 registrations. i am thinking this might be a DRM issue. can you try the following and let me know the results? 1. Close all the programs that are running. 2. Open a Web browser, and then visit the following Web site: http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink?LinkId=105000 3. When you are prompted with a file download dialog box, select Run . 4. Accept the EULA. 5. You will receive the following popup warning message: Reset Windows Media DRM now? WARNING: Licenses for purchased Windows Media content and protected recorded television will be lost. Click Yes . 6. After the tool runs, a Notepad window will appear. Scroll to the bottom of the window and verify that it states: “CleanDRM succeeded.” 7. Open the Zune software, sign in, and then try to play DRM-protected content.

The DRM reset worked for me but I had to run it in safe mode.  I hope this helps.
